Technical Sprints

Technical Sprints are designed to enhance your theoretical knowledge within one of the following topics: Controls, Hydraulics, Mechanicals, Gearbox and Electrics.

What are technical sprints?

Technical sprints have been developed following our assessment, where we test in five different subjects: Controls, Electrics, Gearbox, Hydraulics, and Mechanicals. If the assessment indicates a lack of knowledge in one or more of these subjects but high scores in others, we suggest our technical sprints instead of undergoing an entire Technology Essential training. This allows technicians to reach the desired knowledge level and keep pace with their colleagues on our Competency pathway and more Advanced Theory training quickly and effectively.

Provides an in-depth insight into the core functionalities of PLCs (Programmable Logic Computers) and CPUs, including how computers and systems communicate. The course is designed to give a solid understanding of controls and how PLCs communicate with various systems.

This sprint covers:

  • PLC fundamentals

  • Different signals for PLCs

  • Computer language and binary code

  • Digital and analog signals

  • Protocols and parameters

  • Bus systems including Can- Inter and Modbus

  • Scada

Before the sprint participants receive our comprehensive workbook and other relevant materials, which they use to fill out during the course. This workbook contains all relevant information from the sprint for future reference in their work.

This sprint is divided over two days, with the first day focusing mainly on the fundamentals of electrics, and the second day delving into core components of a turbine, including generator, converter, and transformer.

Day one covers:

  • General introduction to electrics

  • Testing

  • Component theory

  • Motors

  • Protection devices

  • Semiconductors

Day two covers:

  • Generator introduction and operation

  • Synchronization

  • DFIG generator

  • Maintenance

  • General faults

  • Converter types

  • Transformers

  • Grid compliance

  • Safety

Before the sprint participants receive our comprehensive workbook and other relevant materials, which they use to fill out during the course. This workbook contains all relevant information from the sprint for future reference in their work.

This sprint is specially designed to provide a deep understanding of gearboxes, how they work, and their function.

This sprint covers:

  • Gearbox overview

  • Connecting to generator

  • Bearings in gearbox

  • Simple troubleshooting

Before the sprint participants receive our comprehensive workbook and other relevant materials, which they use to fill out during the course. This workbook contains all relevant information from the sprint for future reference in their work.

Designed to broaden knowledge of WTG (Wind Turbine Generator) components and improve overall hydraulic knowledge, this sprint lasts one day and covers all basic areas in the hydraulic subject.

This sprint covers:

  • General principles of hydraulics

  • Initial evaluation, oil

  • Samples and filtration

  • Symbols and schematics

  • Rotor brake and yaw hydraulics

  • Pitch system

  • Safety and components

Before the sprint participants receive our comprehensive workbook and other relevant materials, which they use to fill out during the course. This workbook contains all relevant information from the sprint for future reference in their work.

This Technical sprint aims to enhance knowledge of WTG components and improve functionality and troubleshooting skills.

This sprint covers:

  • Stresses and strains

  • Drive train and rotor hub

  • Main/rotor shaft

  • Gearbox and bearings

  • Alignment, torque and tensioning

  • Tools, and yaw system maintenance

Before the sprint participants receive our comprehensive workbook and other relevant materials, which they use to fill out during the course. This workbook contains all relevant information from the sprint for future reference in their work.

Reliable and ambitious friends that grow with you. Important in life, important in business. I met Carsten Lind Andersen more than 10 years ago when we were creating our first service teams in onshore and offshore wind. Since then dwpa - Danish Wind Power Academy has been a great friend at work.

We benefitted with an immediate improvement out in the field from our technician. Displaying clear learnings from the training course and assisted in fault finding to resolve a hydraulic turbine issue.
We would highly recommend the DWPA training course to any new technicians to the industry, with guaranteed immediate positive results for any employer within the industry”

DWPA was what we wanted and could not find elsewhere. DWPA could customize the course based on turbine or approach. It is excellent that they use the wind farm info and even the specific machines.

I enjoyed going over schematics, and organizing documents to help with troubleshooting Trainer is very knowledgeable in every aspect, if we have a question he is able to answer it. I know it’s not normal I don’t believe for the instructor to climb a tower with you but I believe this was an amazing experience, so just happens we had a difficult fault to troubleshoot. I learned a lot from this.
